iFixit has not taken the last patient to go through X-rays , and they offer us an inside view of Apple’s new Smart Battery case for the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. Apple has never integrated a button dedicated to the camera as it has done on this occasion with the Smart Battery. This is why it is striking how they have integrated the system.
While the usual method would have been for the Smart Battery button to activate another physical button below on the body of the iPhone, Apple has done so has been to take advantage of the Lightning connection between the case and the iPhone to add a connection that transmits the Orders of this new button, which as we can see in the X-ray images is controlled by a small plate implemented. A sample of how a good hardware design adds a new function to the Smart Battery case.
According to iFixit, it has never existed, and Apple enabled the volume up button to shoot from the camera instead of implementing one, but perhaps it is time to assess whether the creation of a dedicated button on the Smart Battery is an Apple test to assess if it would be a desired function on the iPhone.
With the new iPhone 11 and 11 Pro and its powerful cameras, it would not be surprising if Apple decided in the future to improve the experience of these including a button dedicated to the camera shutter . What do you think?
