Rewind to the launch of The Daily in San Francisco circa February 2011. Despite overtures from Rupert Murdoch himself to join him in launching The Daily, Steve Jobs is too sick to attend. So who does he send? Not CEO in waiting Tim Cook nor his SVP of Marketing, Phil Schiller. Instead he sends Eddy Cue, at the time not even an executive of Apple. But then Cue is the father of iTunes and the App Store and in hindsight made for an inspired choice to appear on Apple’s behalf.
