It has now been (almost) confirmed that that the next generation of iPad – the iPad 3 will sport a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution, which Apple will refer to as “Retina Display”. This resolution, as you would have already noticed is four times the resolution of current iPad (1024 (x2) X 768 (x2)) but that does not mean you will be able to see four times data at a time.

Just like iPhone 4, Apple will be making iPad OS (modified iOS) resolution independent. This means that everything will get much more crisper; text will be crystal clear and high resolution pictures will pop out. Apple will be launching iPad 3 in January next year (2012).
